Frequently Asked Questions
What time does my retreat start and end?
There are no set beginning and end times for day or overnight retreats. For groups coming North from the New York City area, we recommend you allow for at least 2 ½ hours of travel time to accommodate traffic, etc. For day retreats, programming usually runs between 6 and hours. For overnight retreats, we book in 24- or 48-hour blocks of time. If you would like to stay beyond that time frame, there is an additional per person charge.
Can you tell me about your staff?
All of our staff are trained to facilitate all elements and activities on our campus. Our facilitators are recent college graduates from a wide range of backgrounds who all share a desire to engage in meaningful work and make a difference in the world. Many of them have previous experience in youth development, special education, community development and/or adventure education.
Are you contracted with the New York City Department of Education or are you an approved vendor?
Yes; Ramapo for Children is contracted with the New York City Department of Education and we are an approved vendor. Please call 845.876.8435 for the contract or vendor number.
What do your rates include?
Our rates are all inclusive. All program types include access to all elements and activities; lunch is included for day retreats and 3 meals (24-hours) or 6 meals (48-hours) are included for overnight retreats; lodging is included for overnight retreats.
Does the rate change based on the group size?
No, our rate is the same regardless of the number of participants in your group or the age of your participants.
Are there any additional taxes or fees?
There are no additional taxes. There are additional fees if you opt for a bagged meal-to-go or for an additional time beyond the general program blocks (i.e. 24- or 48-hours). Additional time is not charged during meal times.
What are the lodges like?
We have four heated lodges that are used year-round for Retreats. All lodges have bunk-style beds. We do not offer individual or private rooms or double beds.
Where are you located?
Ramapo for Children is located in Rhinebeck, NY in the Mid-Hudson Valley. We are approximately 1 hour south of Albany, NY and approximately 2 ½ hours north of New York City. GPS Address: 22 Camp Ramapo Road, Rhinebeck, NY 12572
What if a member of my group has food allergies or dietary restrictions?
We ask that all groups relay any and all food allergies or dietary restrictions to us as soon as possible so that our kitchen staff may plan meals accordingly.
Do you have a kosher kitchen?
No; we do not have a kosher kitchen. We do not, however, serve any pork products. If your group requires certain kosher products, please let us know as soon as possible so that we may have them upon your group’s arrival. Please note, there is always a vegetarian meal option available.
